One of Australia's leading independent retailer of high quality luggage, business cases, handbags, wallets and leather accessories.
The business carries on a family tradition in leathergoods which goes back to 1852, when John Hunt's great great grandfather established a boot and shoe factory in Balmain, making boots that the diggers wore to the goldfields.
After living overseas for five years, travelling extensively, the Hunts noticed the absence of any quality luggage or leathergoods stores in Australia. As a management consultant, John was running an Australian luggage manufacturer, Ford Sherington, making Globite schoolcases. So the Hunts opened their own store in the fabulous and avant-garde new building by Harry Seidler, the MLC Centre, sourcing beautiful leathergoods and luggage from manufacturers across Europe, the USA and the UK, including Longchamp.
As well as a Longchamp and Tumi stores in Sydney. The Hunts still travel overseas twice a year to source beautiful, well-made and unusual leathergoods, luggage and handbags to sell exclusively in their stores. The company head office is in Balmain, where the latest Hunt Leather store opened in 2003, in a beautiful 1868 sandstone building.
leaving the business in the hands of Elizabeth and daughter Sophie, who joined the firm in 1995.
